Almost to 16 weeks!

Well I haven't had much time to write a new blog about Mishu so here goes.  She went to the vet Tuesday and got more shots and was a really a good pup letting Doctor Brinker at Mid-Michigan  Veterinary Clinic check her out.  She has gone from 3.8 pounds a month ago to 4.8 pounds; our little girl is growing up...LOL.  She got the shots on Tuesday and yesterday, Wednesday in the morning we found out that we couldn't pick her up without a scream of pain from her.  Let me tell you that yelp got us really worried.  We tried three different times to pick her up and each time we got the same yelp and then she would back up into the corner and put her head down.  I coaxed her to me and she just went right into her crate and laid down.  I tried to get her to come out but she wouldn't, not even for food or water.  Right at 7:30am when the Vet opened I called and brought her in.
As soon as I opened up the crate in the vets office she came out and was sniffing the floor.  Doctor came into the exam room and asked what was wrong and picked her up with no yelp!  I was like really??  So after the exam which found nothing I picked her up like nothing was wrong...I didn't even think and said "You Little Sh##!, you played me didn't you".  Dr.Brinker liked that one and laughed.  I was really just glad she seemed OK.  They kept her for the day watching her and she was fine.  All they could find was maybe she was sore from the shots but nothing wrong with her.  When Aija picked her up at the Vet the ladies didn't want Mishu to go and said she could come back anytime as they really thought she was a sweetheart!  Now since she was awake most of the day in the Vets office you would think she would sleep since that is really her time to get some Z's.  Well last night she was hyper.  I took her out to play and she would run and run fetching toys in the yard!
This morning all she wanted to do was sleep(pic on left)... on her back resting on me.  And yes, those are Flaming 8ball sleep pants!!.  Usually we have her up and going from 5am when she goes outside for her business till about 8:30.  At that point I put her in her crate for about a half hour then bring her outside for some play if she wants it and to "Potty"!
Yes Jess Butler
,that "One" word for her business was for you...hahaha.  Looks like next month we'll get her spayed and then a month after that she will start obedience training with Jess at CorrectingK9's.

She sure likes to play either in her pen or outside fetching her squeeky pink rubber bone.  I'll have to get some video of her playtime outside with her BFF next door, a Chaweenie named Chika!  If she is not playing she loves being with us either on the couch or just in the same room where she can see us.

Mishu goes to the Vet

Well even though I didn't plan on having a child... I find myself with one now in the form a Japanese Chin Puppy - "Nugget" (we call her that when she is not around).  She is only 12 weeks old so her brain isn't developed all the way yet.  She can hold her bladder all night, but she doesn't know that yet lol.  So she goes out every 4 hours give or take and that means I get to set my alarm and get up at 1am and take her out in the yard while Aija gets up around 5am to take her out.  I'm so glad we have a flood light in our backyard since we have a slew of Possums
that like to walk on the top of our chain link fence,
THANK YOU MAG LIGHT FLASHLIGHT for being so bright!!  When I put her down on the ground she is so sleepy so she usually will just stand there or sit and take it all in... Smells, the wind, the sounds... Then she gets up and starts sniffing the ground and then follows the 1am trail to the potty spot she made for herself and within 5 minutes I'm back in the house and she is eating a late night snack or getting some water, then it's back in the crate till morning.

So we are still working on training with her and the biggest thing is trying to keep up with her especially when she is outside.  She is so fast and wants to put everything in her mouth.  So the next thing we are going to teach her is give so we can get those things out of her mouth... as she is running away playing with us.  This morning I took her to MidMichigan Veterinary Clinic to see her Veterinarian Danielle Brinker.
Danielle has been in the business for 6 years and got her degree from Cornell University.  This morning Mishu had to get her third round of shots and kennel Cough meds so she can schmooze with other dogs.  She already has a BFF right next door thru the fench...Chica, which is a female Chi weenie.  She is up to three pounds and eight ounces so she is getting bigger by the day.  Pretty soon she'll be, well... still small full grown LOL!

This morning she was crying and wanted to go out before Aija was up so I let her out and then back in but instead of the crate we have her in a pen.  She seems to like playing with her toys by herself but if we are around she really wants to be with us and be part of the family.  She is a cutie as one of the girls at the radio station calls her the little cuddle muffin!

WEEK 2

Well we got through the first week with the new puppy!  And she even learned a new command which is sit and she also now knows come.

As for the rest well... NO is not in her vocabulary yet!! LOL  Oh well it's a learning process for her... and us!  She is now on a schedule and is getting house broken.  We take her out every 3 to 4 hours or so with the longest time in the afternoon which is about 4 hours.  So far I haven't seen any Possum's in the yard when I go out at 1am but last night in the evening they showed up again on our back fence.  Nothing really phases Mishu when I take her out out in the middle of the night as she is half asleep.  I put her on the ground as she can't walk steps yet, and she sits down and takes everything in.  I have to give her the command "Go Potty" and then she gets up and walks...sniffs.... and does her buisness like a little trooper; back inside we go.

Now as far as the cats go today she got whapped in the head from Lucy Cat as she got a little too close and wanted to play.  Mishu came up to her and backed away and then got right up to Lucy's nose and... WHAP and hiss!  Mishu just backed away and I picked her up so Lucy could have some peace and quiet.

The Lucy Cat

As far as Sake the other cat in the house she hisses a lot but is not mad but scared.  She whines and is always watching for Mishu even when she knows she is crated for the night.  Only once did Mishu want to play with Sake.  Sake got cornered and couldn't get out and Mishu got a whap but it seemed like a I'm scared not I'm mad... which if you have animals you kind of know the difference.  Lucy whap...Hard with purpose, Sake whap... fast but didn't hit very hard.  Oh well time will tell if they will become friends or just tolerate each other

Sake Cat

As we go through the week we are trying to teach her to shake and we also put a collar on her which she is getting use to...kind of!!

First Post

Well I decided to start this blog with my fiance because we just welcomed a new member to our family, Mishu which is pronounced ME-shoo.  She is a Japanese Chin and is 11 weeks old and weighs a whole 3 pounds.  I picked her up this past weekend and she has filled our lives in the last week with laughter, joy, panic, sleeplessness, love, and lots of gazes in her way!  If you want to know more about the Japanese Chin you can check out this YouTube video on them: http://youtu.be/noHmLGPEJ3M  I recommend that you do as it's a good one.

When we got her home we decided that we wanted to crate train her and let me tell you, this breed doesn't bark much if at all but the whine/bark she was doing all night the first couple was loud.  This little girl has a set of lungs on her!  I could only imagine how she felt in a strange place without her litter mates AND two cats she doesn't know.  Now at night she is down to about 10 minutes of whining and then she is silent.  Right now since she is young and can only hold her bladder for about 3-4 hours, we wake up at night and let her out to do her business and then back to bed for another 4 hours.  We had planned on litter training her but she is doing really well with the holding till we go outside and then going so... who knows at this stage of the game.

Her mom is only seven and a half pounds and looks like Mishu will be about the same when she is full grown.  She is just a darling little girl and we couldn't be happier having her in our lives.  She is learning to chew her toys instead of any other thing in front of her...lol.  She likes her rope and has a couple of squeaker toys that she goes after especially her pink one (she is a girl after all)

The other night I found out that evening is nap time and she just happened to be on me and was zonked out after just a little time in my lap.  She really likes to snuggle in my neck.
Also helping with the dishes is something she really likes to do...
Today before work I brought her over to Aija's work and showed her off and then came over to the radio station and got a picture with dog lover Hal Mass

Her new trick...well not a trick but she is picking up the SIT command and does it really well even without a treat which is what Aija is training her with.  We'll keep everyone updated on little Mishu's world.
